Situated on top of a hill called "La Butte", Montmartre is unique in Paris. You will enjoy the village-like atmosphere with its meandering narrow streets and stairs, its shops, grocery stores, bars, cafes and musical mood.
Not to be missed:
-Place du Tertre with its street artists making portraits and its bistrots (typical French bars also serving food). Just behind is the Montmartre Museum.
-The Moulin de la Galette is a historical windmill frequently depicted in paintings by famous artists. It used to be a famous "guinguette"and dancing room at the end of the 19th century. The windmill was relocated and is now a restaurant.
-The Rue Lepic with its café "Les Deux Moulins" where scenes of the famous French movie "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" were filmed.
-The Square Dalida a few steps from the late singer's home
-The Day of harvest in the rue Saint Vincent with its small vineyard. Inhabitants of
Montmartre continue the tradition of wine production with a feast taking place every year the first weekend of Octobre.
